Space Within

“The moment that judgement stops through acceptance of what it is, you are free of the mind. You have made space for love, for joy, for peace.”    Eckhart Tolle

In my Reiki and Counselling practice, people come to see me about issues that they are struggling with.  It might be about relationships, about not being able to get the right job, or not being able to fall pregnant or about health issues.

In each case, there is one common link we all share.  When I feel stuck or unmotivated in my situation, I constrict my mind and my body.

Constricting my mind, body and spirit, limits my view and a bigger picture.  It keeps me feeling trapped without hope, it keeps me from living in the present. When I create space within me, I open myself to receive inspiration, guidance and direction.  I create opportunities to see more and trust there is a way through my pain.

How do I constrict?:

Trying to control a timeframe or outcome of my situation

Allowing fear in which blocks my view

Being stubborn – believing that my way is the only way

Unforgiveness

Not accepting my situation

How do I create space?:

Meditation, Yoga, Breathing techniques

Forgiveness

Spending time in nature/re-connecting

Surrendering and accepting my situation

Consciously practising being present

Visualisation on positive thoughts and energy

Each time I create space within me, I move towards healing.

  1. Jeepers! Your responses to these reactions are rich. Thanks for sharing your wealth of wisdom. Attaching to the outcome is what often gets me to react as well. I often find myself surprised or even shocked, but then I remember that the outcome is what it is. This doesn’t mean I don’t plan or progress; it just means I want to accept what is and then respond in productive ways. Stubborn, I am too.

  2. Karen I love this post, lots to think about. Im trying to get back into my walking in the morning. Its so cold the mind is ready but the body, is resisting and so I will try again tomorrow. I tend to feel better once I have been, especially if I make myself aware of every step and really feel my feet touch the ground, on those days Im bursting with new energy. Thank you for consistently giving me something to strive for.

    1. I agree with you Kath. I have so much more energy when I connect and exercise in nature. It is difficult in winter! Still, our winter is pretty good, so I guess until it snows (ha) we should make an effort. Thankyou for your support. 🙂

  3. Yeah, I find myself constricting when I don’t accept what is in whatever situation. A friend of mine once said, ” Whenever I fight with reality, I always lose.” 🙂

  4. Ohhh, Karen, you bring so much good stuff to the table!! I recognize myself in several ‘constrictions’ and have work to do in ‘creating space’ as well. Ahhh, well, life is a journey, no? Thank you for encouraging us all along the path.

  5. As my meditation practice has progressed it is fascinating to watch my body respond to life, rather than my mind. When you start to catch what it’s doing it has an immediate impact on how tightly you hold to view points, perspectives, thoughts. Such a beautiful creature our living body. Beautiful indeed.
