Inspire

Each time you wake up, ask yourself, “What good things can I do today?”

Often, when we reach out to others, we do not know the ripple effect it may have on their lives, or ours.  I hope this story inspires you.

PAY IT FORWARD

A man was driving his car, when he saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road. He saw that she needed help. So he stopped his car near her Mercedes and got out.

He smiled as he approached her, still she was concerned, as nobody had stopped for hours. More importantly, he did not look safe, as his appearance was poor and shabby.

He could see how frightened she was, so he tried to calm her, ” I‘m here to help you, don‘t worry. My name is Bryan Anderson.”

Her tyre was flat and was difficult to change. While changing the tyre, he got dirty and his hands hurt.

When the job was done, she asked if she could pay him. Bryan smiled. He said, “If you really want to thank me, the next time you see someone who needs help, pay it forward.”

That same evening, the lady stopped at a small cafe.  A pretty waitress caught her eye, she was around eight months pregnant, wiping down the tables for the next customer. The waitress had a sweet friendly smile, even though she had been on her feet all day.

The lady asked, “How many hours do you work each day?”

The waitress replied, “Ten.”

The lady wondered how someone who worked such long hours, could still be so kind and friendly. Then she remembered Bryan.

The lady finished her meal and paid with a hundred-dollar bill. The waitress went to get the change and when she came back, the lady was gone.

She left a note on the napkin, “You don‘t owe me any change. Somebody helped me today, and I want to pay it forward. If you really want to thank me, pay it forward too.”

The waitress found another four hundred dollars under the napkin.

That night the waitress came home early. The kind lady would never know how much she and her husband needed this money, especially now the baby was due.

She knew that her husband was very worried about their finances, and so she was very excited to see him and tell him the news. She kissed him and whispered, “Something amazing happened today. I love you, Bryan Anderson.”

  1. A lovely story, thanks Karen.
I immediately thought of a little book that I read decades ago, called “A Book of Games: A Course in Spiritual Play” by Hugh Prather. Perhaps it’s time I pulled it off my shelf & take a new look.

  2. It’s always so nice to sit back and read a story like this. It helps restore faith in people and helps refocus our own attention on the values and morals we’ve been taught. Stories like this need to be experienced on a regular basis to recharge our energy and help us achieve our true potential.

    Thank you for sharing it.
