The Strength of Weakness

Sometimes we don’t know our own strength, until we come face to face with our greatest weakness.

The Strength of Weakness

Be wary of the very strong
And they shall become weak.
Be dismissed as being weak –
And that shall be your strength.
Remember that the oceans place themselves
Below the land;
But all rivers flow into them.
And remember, too,
That water – the most Pliant of all substances –
Has shaped continents.

Often we believe that our vulnerability or surrendering to life is weakness, or that being stoic and determined is a sign of strength. Neither is true. A complete acceptance of who we are and of “what is” in every moment, is what shapes our lives and allows courage and strength to grow within.

  1. Couldn’t agree more. So many strive to fulfill expectations of what society determines is worthy rather than focusing on developing the character and personality of who they really are.
    Great post.

  2. I agree. There is so much strength in vulnerability. When we can be vulnerable, we sort of get out of our own way, or out of fear and come from a place heart. Thanks Karen.

  3. A great reminder to fully accept who we are and what is in every moment! I wish that would be easier to live that truth. Just when I think I’m there I catch myself not accepting what is 🙂

  4. This has always been my way of thinking. Every strength can be a weakness, and vice versa. Balance is always the answer. 😉 It is my one of my strategic strengths to show my vulnerabilities, to be innocuous, and to display weakness.

      1. Karen I tried to purchase your book at my local store but they can’t get it so I will purchase it soon from your site, slow but will get to it after all the bills are paid lol xxx

      2. Sorry you couldn’t get it. In Melb where some friends are, I called Dymmocks and they now stock the book. If you had enough interest in your area I am sure they would stock it too, but my book will be around for awhile, so no rush. 🙂
