Express Yourself

The important thing is not to think much but to love much; and so do that which best stirs you to love.”   Teresa of Avila

What stirs you to love? I see so many who are not satisfied with their jobs or their future and I always ask them, “What are you doing creatively in your life?”  Most are not doing anything creative in their life and if they are, they doubt they are good at it.

I am most happy when I am able to express myself in an authentic creative way.  I love writing and creating new ways to help those through grief and I always get excited when I see something that moves me and I can express that to others.

Dancing, art, singing, writing, gardening, public speaking and music are just a few ways we can express who we are and in doing so, we connect with others and receive new energy through that source.

When we realize what our unique gift is and learn to do it well, we can find satisfaction and a deep passion in life.

It doing so, it can open our hearts and minds and lead us to work in areas we never imagined ourselves doing.  Exploring our creativity allows us to express our beautiful unique self to the world.

  1. I really enjoy your creativity here on this blog, Karen – and of course your beautiful book, Courage.

    1. Thank you Karen. I want to post. I sort of lost my muse on November 8 (election day here). So much to process and integrate around that. Usually I can stay in the big picture, but other times I get sad and angry at what is happening to our planet, and our new administration is doing everything they can to hurt Her. When I wrote Chaos and Calm, it was the day before the election and afterward, I didn’t feel I could walk my talk so to speak, and haven’t been able to write since. May 8 will be 6 months, and I am feeling more and more ready to write again. We have also been really busy. I wanted to write for Earth Day, or at least put up a picture, but alas….I didn’t do it. Thank you for appreciating my blog. ❤ ❤ I will post again soon! 🙂

      1. Yes because you remind us Mary with your beautiful writing and pictures to appreciate this divine Mother Nature and to give back to her when we take so much around the world. Do it because you make a difference and we all have a space in our life to do that. We are all responsible for that. Love to you 💚🙏🏻

  2. Ah yes. self doubt. So important to reign this in. Your post reminded me of:

I used to have what I call an ‘inner tyrant’, a bad habit that I picked up of always criticizing myself. It’s a real tyrant — there is nobody in this world that has been more tyrannical, critical or nasty to me than I have. Even the most critical person, however much they have harmed and made me miserable, has never made me relentlessly miserable as much as I have myself, as a result of this inner tyrant. It’s a real wet blanket of a tyrant, no matter what I do it’s never good enough. Even if everybody says, “Ajahn Sumedho, you gave such a wonderful [inspiring talk]”, the inner tyrant says “You shouldn’t have said this, you didn’t say that right.” It goes on, in an endless perpetual tirade of criticism and fault-finding. Yet it’s just habit, I freed my mind from this habit, it does not have any footing anymore. I know exactly what it is, I no longer believe in it, or even try to get rid of it, I just know not to pursue it and just to let it dissolve into the silence. That’s a way of breaking a lot of these emotional habits we have that plague us and obsess our minds.

  3. I just had a wonderful long weekend with my grand kiddos…they express themselves all the time without any second thoughts…endless creativity and so much FUN 🙂

  4. I love this! When I think too much about a painting I’m working on, it doesn’t flow well. When I let go and allow a different kind of consciousness to play, that’s when things really start happening and I forget about time.

  5. Timely post when I am seeking to go back to a part time job. I have been having too much fun being a creative and now its time to balance the load so my husband can have an extra day to be creative and I can get back into the work force on a casual basis. We both value having some creative time. Love it Karen.
